If the Phillies wins the World Series – Will the fans ”burn down” the city? Or loot?

I can see it coming. Anyone who lives in the Philly area and saw how animated fans were when they got to the WS, you know what I’m talking about. People were climbing street polls and out in the street into the middle of the morning. It’s all been contained though. The Philadelphia Police Department’s done a good job. There’s only so much they can do if people get that out of control though.

I’m sure there’s one side of Michael Nutter that wouldn’t mind seeing the Phillies lose. Even if it was depressing. Either way, there could be major chaos. This rain is just delaying it.

Philadelphia has the most disappointing sports teams of any other U.S. city with 4 teams. Agree or disagree?

I’m from Boston so I can sympathize, because up until five years ago, my own city was starved for a championship.

But Philadelphia hasn’t seen any type of sports championship since Reagan’s first term. (Sixers in ’83) Since then, let’s recap what has happened:

The Sixers lost in 5 games to the Lakers in the ’01 Finals.

The Flyers have won the Atlantic division title every other year dating back to 1995, yet they always seem to bow out of the playoffs in the first-round.

The Eagles lost three consecutive conf. championships before finally making it to the Super Bowl in ’05, where they lost a close one to the Patriots (a game the Eagles clearly should have won).

As for the Phillies: only one Series title in their history (when Jimmy Carter was still president). And nothing hurts more than losing the (’93) World Series on a walk-off home run.

Red Sox fans: for those of you who like to complain about ’03 or ’78, try mentioning Joe Carter’s name to a Philadelphian.

Why can’t the City of Philadelphia do anything right?

The Phillies parade for example- the city officials urged everyone to take public transportation- and then the public transportation system couldn’t handle the flow of people. Many didn’t get to the parade- many couldn’t get home!!!!
Wasn’t any better when Republicans ran it- and I’ve lived in Philly for 39 years of my 44. Seen it all! Doesn’t even have to be a parade for one of our teams. AND YES- Philadelphia fans are the best!! That’s never in question!

Is it time to Congratulate the great city of Philadelphia ?
